History of CommunityRay was founded in 1902. Those enterprising men and women starting Ray generally came from towns located along the railroad lines in Northeastern North Dakota. As news traveled across the state of lots for sale, Ray grew to be the supplier and service center for settlers, ranchers, and hired hands.

Interesting facts:

• Ray Elementary School was built in 1907.
• Ray High School was built in 1922.
• Ray Underpass (now an overpass) was dedicated in 1942.
• Ray Elevator was built in early 1900's.
• Ray Drug Store was built by Doc Scott in 1902.
• Original Grain Palace building was built in 1913.
• Opera House (Museum) celebrated their grand opening in 1904.
• Methodist Church - built in 1905. (no longer standing)
• Catholic Church - built in 1904.
• Lutheran Church - corner stone was laid in 1908.
